| Beijing is the ultimate place to learn standard Mandarin Chinese. Mandarin, as spoken in Beijing, is considered to be the standard for the People's Republic of China. Other cities such as Shanghai, Qingdao, Kunming, Guangzhou, Dalian, Nanjing, etc., might teach standard Mandarin in the classroom but the learning environment outside of the classroom is certainly not optimal.
