Cultural activities and excursion plan January 2011
In order to provide rich opportunities for our students to learn Mandarin language and Chinese cultures in a real life environment, Global Exchange Center organize some cultural activities or excursions in Beijing each week. Following is our schedule in Jan. 2011. This schedule may be modified so please pay attention to the activity posting and sign-up sheet in our office. Some activities need to share the costs among the participants.
Jan. 11, 2011, Tuesday: Global Exchange Welcome Dinner
At beginning of each month, our center invite all new students to have networking dinners in a nearby restaurant in order to let new students to get to know each other and to know our staff
Jan. 14, 2011, Friday: Beijing Roast Duck
Quanjude (全聚德) is the best Peking Duck brand in Beijing or said in China. The most delicate duck, the best roasting method and the best sauce. We always arrange group dinner in one of its best locations near Tsinghua University in Wudaokou area.
Jan 15, 2011, Saturday: Mutianyu Great Wall Excursion
Nobody can afford to miss a tour to Great Wall in his or her tour list in Beijing. Our center arrange the private transportation to bring our students to one of the best Great Wall site Mutianyu (慕田峪). Beautiful scenery, grand acient Wall, cable cars and local foods are all memorable.
The week from in Jan. 17 to Jan 21, 2011: The dish of the month event-Chinese Hot Pot:
It is a learning by doing activity. Each month we introduce one Chinese dish or special restaurant to our students and organize real experience events to let our students to learn. This month we introduce Hot Pot (火锅) to our students. Hot Pot is one of the most popular dishes in China in winter time. Selected lamb, beef, all kinds of vegetables, Tofu and more. Our center may arrange a few possible times for this events. Pre-event briefing sheet will be handed to each student in advance.
Jan 19. 2011 Wednesday: Pub Quiz in Lush-the popular bars in Wudaokou:
Lush is one of attracting bars in Wudaokou area. Each Wednesday Lush organizes Pub-Quit competition for international students. The international students with all different background come to the events to compete for their knowledge in history, literature, music, movie and more. The participants must form the group in advance. It is fun and networking events for all international students who are studying broad in Beijing. It is one of most popular event for our students.
Jan. 21, 2011 Friday: Hutong tour and dumpling making event:
Hutong (胡同) and courtyard (四合院) are landmark Beijing style architectures.
Hutong is the long and narrow alley that was common in old Beijing. Courtyard is a typical Beijing
Residence with the rooms in four sides and small yard in the middle. Currently there are very few
Courtyards that are preserved in Beijing. We organize the tours in Houhai area that is in the center of
city. After a short tours along hutong, students can go inside of a courtyard and talk with its owner.
Students can also learn how to make Chinese dumpling with the owner’s family and eat the
dumplings afterward.
Jan. 25, 2011 Tuesday: Chinese Kara-ok night with our teachers:
It is a fun and learning event by singing popular Chinese songs with our teachers. Our students may also share his or her favorite sings in his or her native languages. It is evening after classes event and drink and light foods are available. The costs will be shared.
Jan. 27, 2011 Thursday: Beijing Opera show
Beijing Opera or Peking Opera (京剧) is a form of traditional Chinese theatre show which sombines music, vocal performance, dance and acrobatics. The repertoire of Beijing opera includes nearly 1,400 works. The plays are mostly taken from historical novels or traditional stories about civil, political and military struggles. Beijing Opera masks-are the special form of arts in Chinese operas which distinctly show the appearances of different roles as well as their dispositions and moral qualities by means of artistic exaggeration combined with truthful portrayal and symbolism. It is an evening event in one of Beijing Opera houses.
