Dalian huoshao is a Beijing-style pot-sticker, or fried dumpling, that looks somewhat
like a fat stick of butter. The reason why it is called Dalian huoshao, instead of the
guotie, as pots stickers are usually known, is because it resembles the old cloth purse
(dalian) that Beijing people once wore over the shoulder or around the waist. Huoshao
means baked bread. The fillings offered include a combination of minced pork with
scallion, chive, fennel, or hyacinth bean; beef with green pepper; lamb with gourd;
or vegetarian.
History
As a local snack of Beijing, Dalianhuoshao is very popular and it can also be called fried
dumplings but it is longer than the common fried dumplings. Its history can date back to
the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty.
