Learning by doing- Breakfast in Beijing
Breakfast is the perfect time to experience Beijing’s snacks. Combining with in house learning, our center organizes mini-observation tours with our teachers to some restanrants nearby in early morning, so our students can see what are typical Beijing breakfast and how local people to have their breakfast.
Beijingers love (yóutiáo–油条), deep fried sticks of dough to dip in huge bowls of steaming soya milk (dòujiāng–豆浆). Besides, a bowl of congee (zhōu–粥), a rice porridge brightened up with the addition of pickles is also a common choice.
As more and more migrants residents from all over China come to Beijing, they also bring new style of food, including breakfast to Beijing. One of popular breakfasts is Flat pan cake filled with fried eggs (jīdàn guàn bǐng -鸡蛋灌饼). In morning time, many food stands in residential communities or on the streets provide those, and sometimes there is a waiting line in front of the food stands.
The price of every piece of the baked goods, as well as noodles, soymilk, cold appetizers, congee, "yóutiáo" or Pan cake filled with fried eggs is about ¥1 to ¥3. With less than three orders can fully satisfy your belly.
Frequently, it’s a rowdy restaurant scene, with strangers sitting next to each other or families crowding around one table, bent on satisfying their waked stomach. You may not used to this phenomenon, while it is authentic Beijing breakfast culture!
