Student name: Diana Desire
Nationality: Holland
Time in Global Exchange Center: 10 weeks
Major: I've studied languages & tourism.
Occupation: In between jobs when in China
Work history: I've worked as a hotel receptionist in a hotel; as a Technical Buyer for Dow The Chemical Company; as an administrative worker for different companies all in The Netherlands. A salesperson in a clothing store in Belgium and as a Check-In Agent for a Spanish airline at Brussels airport in Belgium.
Language spoken: I speak 6 languages (Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese) going on 7 if I manage to understand the difficulties of Mandarin Chinese.
Question1: What are your best memories of living here in Beijing?
Diana : Chinese culture is around every corner; from the hutongs to the many temples. I can spend all day being amazed by all the beauty this city has to offer. I love Beijing!
Question2: Did your time in Chinese program in Beijing help you reach your professional and personal goals?
Diana : I came to Beijing to learn Mandarin Chinese, or at least the basics and get to know the city. So yes, I would say it has reached my professional goals (be able to speak some Mandarin Chinese) and get to know the city (personal goal).
Question3: What advice would you give for those thinking of coming here?
Diana : Wherever you go in China, walk through it with a clear and open mind. Don't take anything personal and emerge yourself completely in the Chinese culture. It might not be easy the first couple of weeks, but it will grow on you. And once it does you'll feel like a local and that's the best feeling you can have when you're in a foreign country. You only live once, so live it to the fullest.
