Founded in 1898, Peking University was originally known as the Imperial University of Peking. It was the first national university covering comprehensive disciplines in China, and has been a leading institution of higher education in China since its establishment.
Peking university has thirty different colleges, and a further twelve departments; this enables the university to offer a large range of subjects for its students to study
Some of the subjects in which Peking University is especially strong are teaching, social sciences, pure science, applied science, humanities, and engineering.
